YIPES!
We experienced our first California earthquake last night while sitting at the dinner table at just after 8pm. We were talking when Kate said "Wait. Hold on." Two seconds later the whole house shook and the plates rattled on the shelves. We got up and out of the house and decided to take a walk right then and there. No sirens, no general hullabaloo. After the walk we drove into downtown Bolinas and linked in to the library's wireless to learn that the earthquake was a 4.4 magnitude and was centered near Petaluma, a few miles to the northeast. Excitement was tinged with reality when my brother texted me "don't bother me with this stuff until you've got plaster in your hair from the shaking!"
Our quake was the largish blue box north of San Francisco Bay. 4.4... whew! So that's what it's like. NOTE: Pay close attention to the number of indicated earthquakes of any magnitude on this map. That's just the last WEEK.

If you don't have anything nice to say, say it loud.
