Recent published reports indicate that wireless lifestyles and technology, while easing many of life's annoyances, also contribute to a distinct difficulty in separating work and play. Numerous wireless devices make it easier for co-workers to contact you at the museum on Sunday or while you are in the men's room (Ladies! For shame!). I am certain that many people who formerly considered Palm Pilots to be productivity aids now wish the Blackberry had never been invented. Are these devices supposed to be helpful? Shouldn't helpful technology be easy to use and almost invisible?
I think it's time for the Bluetooth enabled cell phone to take over for all wireless and remote control applications. The phone would have a small camera on one surface, just as many already have. The opposite surface (outer case if a flip phone or center of the keypad if not) would have two large buttons... scroll up and scroll down. You could use it as an optical mouse (camera as light sensor), a television remote control (volume up/down, scan), and also as a sewing machine foot pedal. Build this crap into a Motorola Rockr phone and listen to iTunes while you hem a skirt in your Toyota Prius. I think this is a great idea. My only trouble is that I hate cell phones and I leave mine at home next to my chair.
Also, why can't wireless enabled cell phone upload a copy of your contact list in compressed format to your email account every few days so that if you lose your phone you don't have to reprogram everything into that damn SIM card again? Auto-sync to Gmail! Awesome!
