DEBIT CARD VORTEX

It has recently come to my attention that the oft-maligned Bank of America charges customers at non-BoA ATMs according to the following grotesque fee schedule * $2 for a withdrawal IN ADDITION TO any charges that the other bank gets you for. * $2 for a balance inquiry, even if the other bank DOESN'T CHARGE YOU. I am, sadly, a BoA customer. I stopped at the local Wells Fargo branch to grab a twenty (costs me $22 because of the Wells Fargo charge), while I'm there I check my balance. A few days later I look online and I've got $26 in charges! AAAAHHHHH! That's 130% of the cash I actually received! For essentially no service. It makes me want to write checks and use only cash back on debit purchases. I felt bad about using my debit this morning for my $1.65 coffee at Starbucks because the banks charge a flat fee plus a percentage of the total purchase tot he retailer for the privilege of using the card. A friend of mine in Somerville runs a bike shop and he would rave about that crap cutting into his profits. This is ammo for my current anti-credit card stance. Credit cards are a device of the devil. Get thee gone!
