I've had opportunity to listen to more music recently as a direct result of the fact that I sit at a computer more often than I'd like to. While listening to
NPR I heard about
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, a independent band that has really taken off. I liked their songs on NPR and I also liked their free MP3s. I bought the CD (nominally for Kate for Christmas) and really liked it. So, I wonder what other bands are new and enjoyable? I've been listening to the Old 97s, Elliot Smith & Heatmiser, the Black Keys, Michael Franti and Spearhead, and even Woody Guthrie. I would also recommend the Jeff Buckley "Live at SinE" album(s/DVD) and some of the Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash output from recently. Willie collaborates well with others and writes great songs. Johnny was a force of nature and his "Hurt" cover should be required listening in the public schools.
So, any music I should check out?
PitchforkMedia.com is the site that first gave Clap Your Hands Say Yeah the good review, thereby giving them the big buzz, thereby garnering them
the NPR coverage, thereby moving them into the public consciousness.
I just found
Said the Gramophone... cool? Unknown.

What's all the hype about The Arctic Monkeys? Anyone heard their music? Worth a listen?
