TEAR-STAINED EYE
A card came in the mail today. Kate loves The Sun magazine, but we cut costs where we could and our subscription has lapsed. The promotional card has set on our desk for three days now and the cover photograph has kept me interested for all of those days. I walk by the table, see the grainy image of the two boys, one with arms outstretched and head thrown back, singing. It's an incredible picture of youth... I might even consider it to be THE picture of youth if I was pushed. I have thought that photography was less art than artifice because I see many close-up shots of rusty hardware or flower petals passed off as art while this photo, otherwise unknown to me, has captured me in a way that I did not expect. So I'm sitting here listening to Willie Nelson singing "Angel Flying Too Close To the Ground" and I'm realizing that I can see so many things in this picture, this one picture, that it makes me cry. So, wet-eyed and unapologetic, I share it with you. Maybe you see something of yourself, maybe you see a loved one, maybe you see hope... Maybe I'm the only one looking.

If you don't have anything nice to say, say it loud.
