...To the beige-mobile, chums!

CRITICAL MASS WAS _______ . We rode our bikes (about 100 of us) through the city last night. I have thoughts about angering people in an "attempt" to get them to appreciate bikes... I'm unsure now why I joined in. I guess it is important to me to show people that they can do something differently than they have always done it... (ride a bike instead of drive a car). I'd like to show people that it's fun, that it's healthful, that it can be safe. I'm not sure that Critical Mass did that. It was an excuse to ride across all lanes of traffic, go slowly, get people honking their horns, etc. If the goal is to get people on your side, why piss them off? It would have been better if we followed the rules of the road, stopped at all lights and signs, rode in the right hand lane, and impressed people with our sheer numbers rather than with our unwillingness to let them by. Some people feel that people are evil. I think they just havn't had a chance to think about what they do. Perhaps one day they will think about their actions and change them. I can't see angering them as an effective strategy for fostering cooperation.
